"It's that type of voice, it's that type of over-the-top gorgeously annoying... a lot of those maybe rococo sensibilities do still have a problem playing themselves out in a puritan culture. I'm not a puritan, so I don't see serious intellectual discourse and surface decoration as being these mutually exclusive areas of discussion. If anything, I'm actually interested in their mutual contamination."
